I thoroughly enjoyed this debut novel by Mike Kalmbach. The plot is well developed and interesting with some nice twists throughout. There is enough magic for fans of fantasy, but the story is focused on the mystery and suspense, so is great for fans of other genres as well. I loved how well-rounded Mendell, the main character, became as the story progressed and he grappled with situations that are not as black and white as they first appeared. I look forward to the next book by Mr. Kalmbach!
