If you've read the earlier Codex Alera books, then you're likely very fond of Tavi and his friends. I think that this may be the best one yet. You get a fuller sense of his story and that of his father.
If you are looking for a story full of adventure, friendship, loyalty and intrigue - this book will not disappoint!

Jim Butcher rotates between 2 series, his Harry Dresden stories and this, my FAVORITE series about Tavi and his planet of complex and different species. Jim Butcher really drives his stories in unpredictable directions, with many minute details that made me a real fan of his books. Unfortunately, the Dresden TV show was dismal so I didn't watch. My son who doesn't like to read also liked these book, and used them for his required English book report assignments. He told me "Mother, Jim Butcher obviously plays a lot of video games!" Well, I don't play a lot of video games but I do like his books.
The new releases always come out in hard cover, then in about 10 months are released in paperback.
This is the 4th of five books (so far) in this series (Codex Alera) 1st is Furies of Calderon, 2nd is Academ's Fury, 3rd Cursor's Fury, 4th Captain's Fury, latest: Princeps' Fury
These are what I keep on my shelves, to enjoy repeatedly... both series!

I am becoming a fan of this series more and more. So far, this is my favorite book in the Codex Alera series. Although it took me a while to get into it, the last half of the book is griping.
I'm at the point in the series where I feel like I "know" the characters as real people and actually care what happens to them. With "Captain's Fury", major turning points are made not only with the characters, but also with the relationships between them. I would like to give examples, but I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone.
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Princeps' Fury.

I really love this series of stories, which I also enticed my teenage son to read. He told me MOTHER, he's stolen his material from video games. Well, I don't play video games, but I enjoy the action and details this wonderful planet of supernatural beings posses.
