In this romantic adventure of wild Afghanistan, master storyteller James Michener mixes the allure of the past with the dangers of today. After an impetuous American girl, Ellen Jasper, marries a young Afghan engineer, her parents hear no word from her. Although she wants freedom to do as she wishes, not even she is sure what that means. In the meantime, she is as good as lost in that wild land, perhaps forever....
"An extraordinary novel....Brilliant."

Great book I found I had 3 copies. Guess I'll let one go. Great adventure in Afghanistan.

I, no great lover of fiction, though ocassionally a fan, enjoyed this book. I particularly enjoyed the description of the Afghan peoples and the brief adventures he took into the description of Afghan history. The characters could have been better developed, particularly the primary female character, however, I attribute her deflated description to having been fleshed out by a man. (Perhaps the time period that novel was written in also contributed to the way she was portrayed- a bit 2 dimensionally).

It was an interesting, adventurous story, full of new and wonderful things to imagine. I would venture to read another of Michener's books.

Major problem with book -it's outdated. Great book if you want to know about Afghanistan in the past. I'm sure it was a good book in its day.

A story as only Michener can tell it; this time focusing on Afghanistan as we never see it in the news.
