I am a huge SITC fan! I love Carrie. I read the reviews before I read the book so was not expecting much from the book but I must say I was surprised. It is a YA book and I can honestly say I am glad I am way finished with my high school years. It was defintely a reminder that I never want to do that again!!
Having said that,I liked the book. I could picture a young Carrie -- the funky clothes, the way she thought, smoking, drinking singapore slings instead of cosmos, etc. I was surprised by her attitude and feelings toward Sebastian but I think in the end she came round and that relationship defined her future attitude toward guys including why she had committment issues. And then Walt...wow, a whole other relationship that helped with the portrayal of future friendships on the TV show, SITC. So was she at times wimpy in the book? Yeah, who wasn't in high school?
But the ending in the book???? How could you not like the last page??? She got a real dose of NYC and then we got to see how she .... oops can't spoil the ending.(even though it was different from SITC) still a cute ending nonetheless!)
Overall it's a book, it's fiction, it's entertainment. Take it for that! I did and was happy with it.

I enjoyed this read so much that even at the end I had a smile on my face.

I started this book with really high hopes. I felt really let down at the end. It wasn't the book I was expecting. If I had come into it with lower expectations, I would have enjoyed it, but the only contact with the other characters took place in the very last paragraph. I guess I was hoping for more of Carrie's exploration and discovery of New York, and how she meet her pals.

This book started out full throttle, i couldn't put it down...but as it progressed, i liked the underdeveloped characters less and less. If you are a Sex and the City fan, it is hard to imagine the future Carrie Bradshaw as the Carrie Bradshaw in this book...in the end, it was just okay for me.

Although I am a big fan of "Sex and the City" and Candace Bushnell I did not think this was a great book. Truly, it is a book for teens. The Carrie Diaries center around Carrie's high school years - her friendships, her boyfriend, her family and her highs/lows. I never got the vibe that the Carrie character was the same Carrie depicted in Sex and the City. The storyline was very juvenile and I think it was insulting to the character of Carrie to have her so weak and boring. Frankly, this story never got off the ground.
