James, James Bond, is back but updated to thwart modern villains, with his bag of tricks from Q and his Carte Blanche to deal with threats to the realm as needed. Fine wine, fast cars, elegant women, espionage and danger...all excellent Bond hallmarks to enjoy with Deaver's deft handling of the hero developed by Ian Fleming. I thoroughly enjoyed Bond's newest adventure, with a promise of more to come. This international adventure starts with a train wreck in Serbia, picks up the pace in London and Dubai, and REALLY gets tense in South Africa. I appreciated how Deaver wove in bits of local culture and local history to explain his local allies and foes that enriched Bond's action and danger within each country.

James Bond is back and Jeffery Deaver brings him current.
This Bond is young enough to do the action and use the technology, the story has great pacing and the plot is believable.
Worth reading whether or not you've read the original stories by Ian Fleming or are even a fan of Bond.

Entertaining and kind of fun to read a James Bond book again. I'm also a big fan of Jeffery Deaver. Unfortunately, I think I'd rather read a new James Bond story still set back in the Sixties. For some reason it didn't seem right to be updated to current times.

This is a decent spy novel but... This is supposed to be James Bond! Instead of writing another Bond adventure, Deaver has recreated Bond in the current age. This includes the creation of a new back story for Bond. The story line was decent and the plot twists kept me reading. But if you are looking for Ian Fleming's Bond he isn't here.
