Gah! There are times Perry's clients really get to me. In this case he at least wasn't hired by the person who refused to talk to him. Though he rarely talked to the person who did hire him. The differences in what the cops are allowed to do then and now are a bit striking--though with our current president, its backsliding an awful lot. The fact there was no cry over the poor dog also shows the time.
The final solution was nifty, but I didn't like quite how it came about. The story seemed much more random than normal. Perry was playing catch-up, which came through clearly, but the events and what he did do/order done/who he didn't go talk to, etc...all of that just didn't ever come together for me. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't one of the better Mason's either. It was kinda nice to see Perry go off in the wrong direction for a bit, though I don't get why the clock reappeared--dumb murderer, I guess!

You can't beat Erle Stanley Gardner for it's classy protagonist. I loved the clever dialogue.
