It only takes a minute for Perry Mason to win a hefty settlement from a fur company that doesn't want to appear in court. But it takes longer than that for Mason to start wondering why the Co. is buying large tracts of land outside LA. There's a distraught widow with slews of suspicious characters all connected to the recently deceased....a man murdered on someone elses yacht. Perry need to pull all the clues out of the water before the case sinks like deadweight!

This is another fun mystery by Erle Stanley Gardner. In this mystery the murder occurs on a yacht anchored offshore. The questions are who did the murder and why, when was the murder committed, and how does one prove the answers to any of these questions. The answers are in the times of the tides, the tilt of the yacht when it becomes mired in the mud, and where the body fell when the murder was committed. The crooked candle offers an important clue. Then Perry Mason conducts an experiment on the yacht by falling asleep on the yacht as the tides pass. A good read indeed.
