Vintage British crime,1954. Witty, engaging, a puzzling whodunit.
Introduction of the iconic Gervase Fen, eccentric Oxford professor. His first challenge-solve the mystery of the murder of the beautiful but hated actress, Yseut at the Oxford Rep. Theater.

An okay golden age mystery. Its reputation is a good one, but I didn't find it that great. Puzzle is fair and you're given the clues, even a diagram that helps once you know the facts. Writing in parts is spell-bindingly literate -- in others mundane and pedantic. Still, recommended for mystery lovers.
