A John Darnell mystery. A mysterious figure has been lurking on the streets of London's red-light district. Dressed in clothing decades out of style, he has been seen only by local prostitutes - and he seems to vanish into thin air. Scotland Yard pays little attention to these odd reports - until a prostitute is savagely murdered in Whitechapel. The killing is hauntingly similar to the work of Jack the Ripper, but those grisly crimes occurred almost thirty years ago. Professor John Darnell, who specializes in debunking cases of the supernatural, is called in to help investigate aided by his unlikely ally, eccentric playwright George Benard Shaw.

I'm a fan of Sam McCarver's John Darnell, but I found this story to be a bit too contrived. The actions of the characters seemed a bit stilted, and much less than believable. A disappointment, to be sure ... but not enough to keep me away from future John Darnell stories.

Once again in the silent streets of Whitechapel London; a brutal killer stalks on the blood of prostitutes. Though murders are common, what gets the attention of the Scotland Yard is the way the crimes were committed; they're savagely done in grotesque ways⦠they are also very familiar.

Professor John Darnell has been called in by the Scotland Yard to help investigate the crimes, they soon find out that they have a copycat in their mist; coping the patterns of âJack the Ripperâ which springs fear from the past once again.

Will they be able to spring a trap in time to catch this copycat before another âJack the Ripperâ victim is found? Will they be able to solve this crime before it's too late?

This book was very adventurous and keeps you wondering. A good thriller and very well done. Highly recommend anyone to read this book if they like good mysteries and thrillers.
