I have never read anything by this author before. I bought this book for a buddy swap game and decided to read it before mailing it to her and I'm soooo glad I did. This book grabbed me in the first chapter and wouldn't let go. The next thing I know it's midnight (2 hours past my normal bedtime) and it's all I could do to put it down to go to bed. It is a long book at 629 pages, but I finished it the day after I started it because I just didn't want to put it down.

I liked the fact that this Heroine isn't one of those too stupid to live ones who is constantly whining and bemoaning the bad things that happen to her. The H/H both have flaws and there are miscommunications between them but they are somewhat realistic things given the setting/circumstances and they work through them in as realistic a way as possible. The sex scenes in the book are somewhat graphic but they are not the primary focus, the primary focus is on the story line and the character development. You actually get to "see" the relationship develop between them not just be told about it. I have already ordered the second book in the series and am looking forward to revisiting this complex world again.

The author does a great job with the world building in this book. She might throw a term out that you aren't sure exactly what it means to the story, but then she will have one of the other characters ask about the term used or the thought expressed so you learn about it right along with the characters and aren't left hanging or trying to figure it out with no reference point. I will definitely be checking out her other books as well. It was worth every penny I paid for the book.
