The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers - Cat Who...Bk 29
Author: Lilian Jackson Braun
Times are changing in Pickax, and it all makes for some newsworthy notes for the "Qwill Pen". A new senior center is in the works, and a frisky production of CATS is set to delight Moose County residents, human and feline alike. Polly Duncan is off to Paris, momentarily leaving Qwill without a companion for his apple-barn concerts, and...  more »

Possible spoiler:

It is time for the ghostwriters who write in Ms. Braun's name to give it up. Possibly they could take a good freshman English course on their way out. The quality of this series has been declining for some years now, and since Ms. Braun is something like 90 years old, it's not likely that she's writing any longer. No plot to speak of. Sentence fragments. Characters doing things they would never do (Polly casually giving away Brutus and Catta?). Please, put the series down in a humane manner.

Go back to The Cat Who Could Read Backwards or Ate Danish Modern or Saw Red or Turned On and Off -- any of the early books, and then read this one, and weep.

As I read this book I felt like I wasn't getting into the story, felt more like I was skimming it over quickly. The ending was just an abrupt stop, as if she had stopped writing the night before and someone decided to print it that way. I looked to make sure there were no pages missing. Very much a let down. I'm with others, I don't feel she wrote this book. She is 81 years old so it must not be easy to sit and write a novel.

The characters in Moose County are always fun and interesting, but this series is losing a bit of its charm. The mysteries are becoming less an integral part of the story, and I feel that Braun might be heading towards writing general fiction, rather than cozies.

This book seemed very disjointed. I was left wondering if the author had strung together several small snippets, in an attempt to make a deadline.

If you're looking for a good mystery..this isn't it...But, if you are like me and have read the previous 27, it's a good "letter from home" catching up on the goings on in Mouse County. The end leaves more questions than answers, so I hope it's not the end of the series...

Well. What to say about this book. All the regular cast members are there, and there is good interaction between them. Not enough of Koko & Yum Yum. As time goes on it seems to me that the plot lines are repeated time and again, although there are a couple twists here that are new. I would never pass up one of these books to read, but it seems there is a little disconnect between this book and the last one.

Not as good as her earlier books. More predictable than most, and loose ends left hanging. Still love all the characters, but not a fun read for me.

Prefer to remember and reread the earlier books.

How sad that years of joy spent involving ourselves with "The Cat Who...." would seemingly come to a poorly written and shabby end. I have no way of knowing if Ms. Braun wrote this herself, or had a "ghost" - but either way....this is a terrible book and I wouldn't recommend it - not even to start a fire.
