Although in a wheelchair, Athena Munroe has become an accepted part of Denver society, mainly though her brother's enormous wealth and her own extraordinary charitable efforts. Morgan Holt is an ex-con who has served time for killing his father. Now part of a sideshow in French's Fantastic Family Circus, which Athena has hired to perform for "her" orphans, Morgan has long since come to grips with the very thing that Athena is suppressing about herself--the fact that he's a werewolf. Many barriers stand in their way to love: an over-protective brother, two jealous would-be lovers, and society itself. There's no middle ground for them. Either Morgan denies his Wolf and forces himself into a form acceptable to the "civilized" world, or Athena leaves her opulent, secure world and embraces her Wolf. Krinard has created a magical world where the freaks and outcasts exhibit more humanity than the so-called "normal" people. Her werewolves, tortured souls never resembling their trite Hollywood counterparts, make incredibly sympathetic characters, and this is a truly engrossing story.

I really loved this book. I lost the first one I had and went and bought another one!! Truly great read!!

I was IN LOVE with this book...all the way through I just was engrossed in all the characters and rooting for the good guys! Then about the last 1/5 of the book I thought another author finished it! I won't spoil it but I was very disappointed at the actions of one of the female main characters. The book was good but it went from a "keeper" to a "pass it on".
With that said, I love werewolf books and will be trying more of Krinard.

Krinard brings the world of the werewolf to life. Convicted of killing his father, werewolf Morgan has served his time and turned his back on humanity once set free. Until he becomes, temporarily, a performer in a traveling circus in order to pay a debt of kindness. When the circus comes to Denver for a charity event Athena finds herself strongly attracted to the mysterious Morgan. This force which they try desperately to deny, threatens to expose their true natures...and free their hearts.

Crippled at a young age, Athena Munroe has devoted herself to charitable work in Denver society. Trapped both body and soul, she won't allow herself to dream of love and freedom-or hear the call of the werewolf blood that flows within her.
Convicted of killing his own father, werewolf Morgan Holt has served his time-only to have turned his back on humanity once he was set free. But now he seems to have found a place, however temporary, in the world-as a performer in a traveling circus.
When the circus comes to Denver for a charity event. Athena finds herself mysteriously attracted to the withdrawn, yet powerful, Morgan. and this irresistible impulse- a force they fight to deny-threatens to expose their true natures...and free their hearts from the cages of destiny itself.

This was a very good story. I enjoyed the various characters. Athena was crippled at an early age. Her family is very powerful. She lives with her brother and her life has been very sheltered as a society hostess. Morgan Holt is a werewolf who was convicted for the killing of his father. Once he left prison he deserted mankind and traveled with the wolves. One day he is badly hurt and changes into a man and collapses in front of a circus. The circus people, meeting another "outcast", take Morgan in. Morgan decides to stay with the circus because he owes it to them, and they need his help to earn enough money to support them through the winter. Athena's brother just happens to meet the circus, and then Athena meets Morgan. This story is pretty much about Morgan and Athena's growing relationship and how she will have to learn how to let her fear go, and Morgan will have to learn how to love and trust again. Very good story.
