This text of this book is so cute, but somewhat difficult to read out loud. The illustrations are a bit too busy for my taste.

From School Library Journal
PreSchool-K A clever tongue-twisting rhyme that's sure to delight youngsters and challenge storytellers. "When the caterpillars went to their caterpillar beds, They all had caterpillows for their caterpillar heads." As expected, a joyous pillow fight ensues until "the big caterpillar" comes in, puts a stop to the fray, and wisely solves the caterpillow problem. The colorful young creatures are utterly charming snuggled in their curled leaf beds before the naughty one begins the battle that sends a blizzard of carefully drawn feathers flying. Big caterpillar is gentle and sensible in the reprimand. An appealing bedtime selection. Virginia Opocensky, formerly at Lincoln City Libraries, NE

From Booklist
Ages 3-7. Professional comedians tell us that some things are inherently humorous-pigs, for example. McBratney adds caterpillars to the "funny" list with this playful picture book: "One naughty caterpillar, in the middle of the night, Woke the other caterpillars for a caterpillow fight." The simple setup, the catchy rhyme, the wordplay, and the ultimate resolution will be greatly appealing to little ones, and Barton's sweetly comical illustrations, crowded with colorful caterpillars are a perfect match. A bedtime backdrop but an anytime read. Stephanie Zvirin
