This is a long book, but very detailed, thorough and well written, so it's worth the extra time to read it. The best part is long after Catherine's husband has died when she helps each son as one by one they become king and then die. The insight into royalty, political intrigue and the religious wars that started to break out between the Catholics and Prostestants is fascinating. I highly recommend this book.

Detailed history of the young girl born into the poerful Medici family who crosses over into the land and culture of 16th century France through marriage. It is not an easy transition and it is not an easy time in the histroy of both countries and the powerful families involved in te politics of the time.
