I am a Midnight Louie groupie!! I am also a cat-fan in real life. Carole Nelson Douglas has been able to capture the feline personality and personify it in the personna of Louie and his obvious affection for his human "partner" Temple. When Louie speaks, you can see the gumshoes of black-and-white TV, or from the Mickey Spillane novels, with their trenchcoats and fedoras walking the dark alleys of the city in search of what the cops can't find, but also finding many a alluring lady along the way. She has captured that roughness all while allowing the "pussycat" within to shine through. A very endearing combination - and a very endearing read.

A very good first book in the Midnight Louie series.
I plan to find the other books to enjoy too. It reads quickly and funny from the black cat sleuth's viewpoint also.
A clever ending and a must read for women of all ages.

This is the first of Douglas' Midnight Louie, Private Detective series. Midnight Louie is one cool dude, short, dark, and handsome--the quintessential private eye . . . more or less.

An okay mystery that would have been considerably better without the main character's politics, particularly as they were not germane to the story.
