Truly enjoyable escapades in Thailand and Burma, I read this book from cover to cover wondering what Clare would do next and how she'd find a friend who spoke Cat. As a traveller, I have often felt guilty about staying in Westernized hotels - but no longer! Bugs and dirt are not for me, nor Asian-style toilets - yeeps! But brave or foolish, Clare just jumps right in, a woman questing alone without even knowledge of the language. The result is a closely knit series of adventures that describe not just the different cultures, but what she learns along the way. You may never get to ride an elephant, visit a night market or a 'wat', but to know what it's like, you can read this remarkable book.
