Because of it's true story this is an outstanding book. It makes a good introduction to discussing the hardships of war, of prejudice, and of being hungry and seeing friends hunger, also of the hardships of animals during disasters. The illustrations are full of movement, color and emotion and at the same time have a dream like quality very fitting to this bit of history.

A great children's story set in Poland during WWII. Cats are used as a diversion tactic to help smuggle food to those Jews in the Ghetto.
