I didn't think this was quite as good as the Bridget Jones books, but Fielding definitely has a flair for heroines who get themselves into hilariously embarrassing situations. Anyone who likes British chick lit will enjoy it.

Very interesting change from the Bridget Jones books. Much more serious side, and yet the fun moments are very very fun.

A wonderful story of a young woman Rosie, who has an epiphany when she realizes that her life in London is ....frivolous. Instead of shopping to make herself feel better, she abandons the world she knows to help others.
Written by the author of BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY, this novel is a wake-up call intending to make the public aware of the need for continued support in the fight against African famine.
Chick lit with substance!

Surprising book from Fielding. While Bridget Jones was fun, this had a slightly more serious slant. I enjoyed it as did friends who borrowed it.

Interesting book where famine relief work is juxtapositioned with true chick lit episodes.

Nothing like her other "fluff" stories. I really enjoyed this one.

I guess I'm a rare breed, but I didn't enjoy this book at all. When I saw it was written by Helen Fielding (Author of the Bridget Jones books), I expected a fun read. The praises listed on the back call it funny. But I just didn't think it was. It's one of those rare books where I actually couldn't make myself finish it.

Girlfriend to a British celebrity, Rosie gets out and goes to Africa. Later faced with a huge refugee crisis, she goes back to her celebrity friends and tries to convince them to give aid when the relief agencies balk. Great fun when a few celebrities visit Africa in their designer safari outfits.

This book isn't Bridget Jones but is, nonetheless, still pretty entetaining. The pace moves quickly and all though I had a hard time accepting the main character as real it was an enjoyable story with good dialogue and story development.

Even better than Bridget Jones

From the author of Bridget Jones' Diary, this fun book also opens the world of humanitarian work in Africa. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

If you're looking for another "Bridget Jones", it is not. It is, however, pretty darn good anyway. It also gets one thinking about third-world issues in a non-threatening way, which I think is very positive. I had a hard time putting it down.

``It could have been bustitled `Bridget Jones joins a MASH unit stationed in the Heart of Darkness.'' _ The Boston Globe.

From the author of Bridget Jones's Diary, it's again fun, girly, british adventures and a heroine that could be any of us.

I really didn't read much of this because I just couldn't get into it. Too bad because I loved Bridget Jones!

Love Helen Fielding, but I just couldn't quite get into this book. HOWEVER, I have a friend who just LOVED it! So who knows. :)

A wickedly funny book with a decidedly serious twist on the third world hunger problem.

I loved this book for several reasons. For one, I had just read The Cottage and The Bleachers and found them both so dull I could hardly get myself to read on. This book, however was a real page turner for me because I loved Helen Fielding's style. She's my kind of woman and she made me laugh out loud several times in this one. It's a great story told with an easy to read style. I don't know if men would really get it or not, but I recommend it for all types of people.

Good. Starts off slow, with typical English dry humore, but leaves you laughing out loud towards the end.

Very witty and funny with touches of sadness and horror(for the famine stricken refugee in the African desert). Very good read!

From the author of "Bridget Jones' Diary" comes a funny and touching story of a woman who finds herself lost among the glittering throng of celebrity and fakeness only to escape to the next extreme of the all to real African jungles.

The book was actually pretty good once I got past the first couple of chapters. Not as funny as Bridget Jones or Olivia Jules, but it is a good book to read.

From the Publisher:
Disillusioned with life as a literary publicist in London, as well as with her hotshot, unevolved TV presenter boyfirend, 20-something Rosie Richardson chucks the glitz and escapes to run a refugee camp in the African desert.

When famine strikes and a massive refugee influx threatens to overwhelm the camp, governments and agencies drag their heels. Calling her media savvy to the fore, and realizing that the only way to get food fast is to bring the celebrities first, Richardson returns to London to organize a star-studded and risky emergency appeal.

Not as good as Bridget Jones\'s Diary, but then again, what is? Rosie is a singleton publicist for a London publisher who dates a cad & has a third-world experience (as did Bridget in Edge of Reason). Read more, including the 1st chapter, at PenguinPutnam.com.
