This is another Scarpetta novel. 30-feet below the Elizabeth River's icy surface a scuba diver is dead, an investigative reporter who was a favorite at the Medical Examiner's Office. Then a second murder occurs. This book brillantly delivers high-tension and suspense.
Veri interesting reading. If you like medical mysteries and/or Patricia Cromwell's style of writing you will love this one.
This takes place on one of the bloodiest New Year's days in Virginia since the Civil War. There is a conspiracy afoot and Dr. Scarpetta is right in the middle and in danger. Suspicious drownings, her own people dying just for bringing back her car and her neice is in danger to boot. Dr. Kay Scarpetta must keep herself and those she loves from being the next victims in a long line of suspicious murders (deaths).
Enjoyed this Kay Scarpetta book as well as all the others that I have read. Stories are always fast paced. Not only does Kay have the duty of finding the answers in the death of a reporter, but also one of her own.....
I like Cornwell, I enjoy her mysteries. But 15 minutes after I put one down I can't remember which one was which. Another well-written formulaic mystery with typical Cornwell gore. Fun fluff.
Patricia Cornwells Kay Scarpetta is a character who becomes addicting. Smart, Funny, brave, and tough she is a character who sticks with you, and you will find yourself wanting to read the whole series. Chapters are on the shorter side so the book is easier to digest.
Dr. Kay Scarpetta must solve an old murder that took place thirty feet below a river's icy surface. In addition to the old crime scene, a new one emerges with an investigative reporter dying. This book in the Scarpetta series was one of my favorites.
It's New Year's Eve, the last day of Virginia's bloodiest year since the Civil War. Dr. Kay Scarpetta plunges into the murky depths of a ship graveyard to recover the very human remains of Ted Eddings, an investigative reporter. What kind of story was Eddings chasing below the icy surface of the Elizabeth River" And why did Scarpetta receive a phone call from someone reporting the death before the police were notified? She soon discovers that Eddings' murder is merely the first layer of something much deeper-a labyrinthine conspiracy that will put all of her criminal and forensic knowledge to the test like never before. For Scarpetta, the real challenge won't be cataloging the growing number of dead bodies, but preventing herself and those she loves from becoming the next victims.
This is the book that marked the downward spiral of the Scarpetta series ( except for Unnatural Exposure). The end was your basic "die hard" style action type ending that we have all seen before so many times.

David W. (11thAve) reviewed Cause of Death (Kay Scarpetta, Bk 7) on
Kind of a anti-climatic non-relevant end to the story. Lots of details were included I suppose to impress that the author had done her research, but they weren't necessarily interesting and didn't add to the story.
