In this 5th installment, Eve must balance between loyalty and duty. She is investigating the death of a fellow policeman, the same officer that trained Lt Feeney, her own trainer and more importantly friend. Under orders from the commander, she is instructed to conduct the case in secrecy. She is led thru a world of black magic, satanism and violence. After the funeral she was appoached by the officer's grandaughter with a story of murder and abuse, but before Eve is able to question her she is killed. When Feeney discovers Eve's undercover work, he feels betrayed and angry and lashes out to her. So not only does she have to discover an evil murderer, she must figure out how to repair her relationship with Feeney. It was a fast paced book and I strongly recommend this book, although the flashes of black and white magical worlds are a bit different.
I am now off to read book 6th.

Another winner in the "...IN DEATH" series, CEREMONY IN DEATH finds Eve Dallas dealing with things that mere science can't explain. Although Dallas believes that evil comes in the form of men, you'll get a little surprise when you find out exactly how other characters from the series, including Roarke and Dr. Mira, feel about it.

Another great read, with high emotion, action, suspense, and romance.

This is an awesome series!

Enjoyed this book very much. The plot centers around witchcraft, Satanism and Wiccans. I found the end more satisfying that some of the earlier ones in the "In Death" series, although I've enjoyed them all!

I love all the J. D. Robb (Nora Roberts) books which happen in a future time when people live much longer than now but there are few things we take for granted now such as "real" meat, coffee, etc. Eve Dallas is married to the world's richest man and also an extremely good Detective.

Love this series... but I have to space the books in between other reads so as to not get to accustomed to the writing style. Eve and Roarke are the best super couple around!

Not among my favorite of the Eve Dallas books. Too much of the arcane for my taste. Still, it has a very nice denouement so I'm keeping it. Worth your time if you like futuristic murder mysteries.

Eve Dallas is ordered to investigate the death of a fellow officer. She is not allowed to tell Captain Feeney about her investigation, because the officer was his friend. This investigation leads Eve and Peabody to a Wiccan Coven and then to a satanic cult.

Though it was very easy to figure out who was the killer, the book was still very entertaining. We learn a little more about Peabody's background in this book. Her character is getting more and more interesting. We are also introduced to a teenager named Jamie who wants to be a cop when he grows up. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

If you don't care for Nora Roberts BUT love Mystery/Dark Thrillers with a side of romance and a dash of comedy - then I think you'll love J.D. Robb's ... In Death series written by Nora Roberts alter ego.

I won't go into the details of the books but will tell you this: Superb character development, continuity of the story line (which means you really need to read the books in order although they can stand alone) is top notch, the relationships that are webbed and weaved together throughout each page are phenomenal and let's the reader 'really' get to know the characters.

Here's a list of all the books in order (I'm leaving off the 'In Death' part):

1 Naked
2 Glory
3 Immortal
4 Rapture
5 Ceremony
6 Vengence
7 Holiday

17.5 Remember When (1st part by Nora, 2nd by JD Robb - stories are connected)
18 Divided
19 Visions
20 Survivor
21 Origin
22 Memory
22.5 Haunted in Death (Bump in the Night Anthology)

This book was very very good and the story plot was excellent. Nora Roberts is an excellent writer. I love all her books and have not found one that I did not like.
I urge all mystery readers to pickup a copy of her books and find out for themselves.

I love powerful Lt. Eve Dallas and how the complex New York City crimes are solved. If you don't wanna bite her husband, don't read these books! Nora Robert's best writing is as JD Robb in this "In Death" series of some 30+ stories to date. I collect all of the JD Robb books, but skip the Roberts, whose stories are not as tight as those about Lt. Eve Dallas - ass kicker! If the future of New York City is like this, I fear these futuristic killers who are sneaky and complex.

Conducting a top secret investigation into a fellow officer put Eve Dallas in the middle of a religious cult who belives in killing and sex as a way to worship. Another thriller that gets Eve almost killed in book 5 of the series. Good and fast reading summer book.

This book was gory and about satanism, so not my cup of tea. I really hated it. Also, Eve Dallas is a tremendous bitch, mean to her co-workers and "friends" and ungrateful of her fabulous husband Roarke. She's only considerate to the dead, and works herself nearly to death. If only. The more I read these in death books, the more I hate Dallas. Going to take a break from this nasty POS.
