On the city streets where he staked his guts and brains to build and empire. In the arms of women he used and discarded..until he met the girl of his dreams. But the biggest chance he ever took was when he fled America to escape prosecution and trusted his empire to someone else...
"It's a big, fat, sassy, sexy, action-filled story that embodies just about every ingredient for best-sellerdom--glamor, sex, high-fashion, crime...in a story that never pauses for breath"
Jackie Collins brings you into the world of the Mafia in the mid 70's like dropping a bomb. From the first pages, you're hooked, and she doesn't let you go until you're crying for more (thank goodness there are the sequels!). You absolutely fall in love with Gino Santangelo; you find yourself rooting for Carrie; you cry for Lucky, and you can't wait until Steven and Lucky finally discover the truth! This book has everything!
The best of the Santangelo series! This is the story of the beginnings of the Santangelo empire with Gino and his daughter Lucky at the helm. If you've read "Lucky" you need to read "Chances" to see how it all began.
"She's LUCKY, Jackie Collins' most famous heroine, and this is how it all started..."
This is an entertaining, fast moving story. I enjoyed it a lot. It does have a lot of swearing, sex, drug use, etc.
Typical Jackie Collins, fun, easy to read.
From the cover...The book that made Jackie Collins one of America's favorite authors sweeps you from the sophisticated playgrounds of Europe to the glittering gambling palaces of Las Vegas. It plunges you into the reckless, dangerous world of the Santangelo crime family. It introduces you to Gino Santangelo, the street kid who makes it all the way to the top. And then brings you Lucky-his sensual, stunningly beautiful, and passionate daughter; a woman who dares to win her father's empire for herself; a woman unafraid of CHANCES.

This is book #1 in Jackie Collins bestselling series and part of the 6 hr. mini series on TV! The sizzling Lucky saga started with Chances! Enjoy!
Glitter, gambling, Las Vegas, and the Santangelo crime family. Enjoyable read.
This book is #1 of 6 in The Santangelo Novel series. A 7th is due to release sometime in 2010. The series focuses on the Santangelo family, particularly Gino Santagelo, an Italian American mobster, and his daughter Lucky. The book introduces the main characters and some side characters that make appearances in later books. I read the 6th book initially without realizing it was part of a series until I had started it, and am now reading from the very beginning. I didn't prefer the organization of the writing in "Chances". The storyline jumped between different characters and different time periods ranging from 1913 - 1977 with the beginning of the story taking place in 1977. This particular ISBN does not have different fonts, only chapter titles to differentiate between the storyline topics. I'm not certain if another binding would be different. The 2nd novel is much easier to read and has smoother transactions between the characters. Depictions from the past are italicized which would have helped tremendously if the same was done in this paperback novel.
I really like the series though, and look forward to reading the remainder. I find the storylines to be interesting, and the characters intriguing.

I first read Chances when I was a teenager and thought I was reading contraband - haha. I consistently hid my book when my parents were around. I've followed the series through-out the years and now I read it publicly. Jackie Collins has the flair of writing to give us glimpses of something glitzy, raw, violent and naughty.
Chances is the first book in the series, and it's where the reader meets Lucky, Gino's teenage daughter before she became famous. Filled with prostitutes, the mob, bad parenting, lots of family drama and two kids at the bottom of it all - Lucky and her brother Dario. Exciting and fast-paced, Chances is a thrilling ride that will leave you begging for more. Luckily, since it is the first book in the series, you won't have to wait long. The other books have been released. But Chances was just released for Ebook! Yay! If you haven't read a Jackie Collin's book yet, definitely start with Chances! You'll feel like you're reading something a bit sinful, but oh it's soo good!

Collins is always a good read.
The 'perfect' summer/beach/pool read. Over 800 pages, of which probably every 10-15 is another sex scene( really these people don't take a break) . I will say it kept my interest, lots of characters, which I usually find confusing, but Jackie Collins keeps it interesting enough not to get confusing. At first I thought it would be too long, but no, it's a quick read. I had only read another Jackie Collins novel several years ago, so this was the first in a long time. I'm not ashamed to say her books are my newest 'guilty pleasure'.
I read this book a long time ago, it was awesome. It was a great story and is one of my favorites by Jackie Collins. it was one of those books that is hard to put down.
