A triptych of a woman's life in 14th century Ireland. Choreographed perfectly and entirely believable.
An odd, yet inspiring book. A wonderful example of Nurture Vs. Nature. Can you turn a girl into a boy?
Mother and midwife conspire to raise a 14th century peasant girl as a boy in order to save her life from a father who is set on having a son. "The revelation of her womanhood marks the beginning of her journey through a a succession of changing identities--including son, whore, warrior, and mother--each of which brings its own special wisdom, but none of which...can ultimately define her."
Interesting read.
Interesting read.
Not many books can move me to tears, but this one did. Strong woman story, she ends up defining herself. I loved this story.
