Pretty awful pictures (I suppose it's hard to draw an Asian boy), story of a boy working in the California Gold Fields. Pretty easy text and simple story, in California, we study this history in the 4th grade, may be too simple for a 4th grader, maybe one that is a "reluctant reader."
