We read this book before our first son was born, and lent it to two different couples with a baby on the way. Our experience was our Norwegian Elkhound knew IMMEDIATELY what the pecking order was when we arrived home with our son, and Max immediately assumed his place as protector of and subordinate to our tiny baby. So, maybe this book will be helpful or maybe you won't need to read it all; nevertheless, it is a comforting ritual to go through before baby arrives. It's also a good reminder not to forget your precious pooch even after the little one arrives.

This book was amazingly helpful when we had our first child and two older dogs. It gave easy proactive solutions to potential problems between the dogs and the baby and later the toddler. We were able to enjoy the dogs more and let them remain indoor, family dogs without worrying about keeping the baby safe. Unfortunately the dogs died of old age before we had a chance to teach our child and the dogs tricks they could play together.
