Bronwen Llyr is heading for the Union lines. But it is not long before she hears the clattering of thousands of Rebel troops advancing in the near distance. In a daring offensive, General Robert E. lee plans a surprise attack to cut off the Union army's supply line. And General George McClellan, lacking reliable intelligence capability, might not know until disaster strikes. Hoping to track down the Union general and warn him, Bronwen finds herself thwarted at every turn. Now, she can only wait...as two armies prepare to collide.

An excellent mystery involving the Civil War. Well-researched, with in-depth characters that I really came to care about as I read.

I'd like to tell you I read this book over a period of a few hours because I couldn't put it down. But the truth is I started reading it while spending over four hours at Tire Plus while they replaced the front and rear struts of my car. And I don't even want to tell you what that cost.

Still, this is the third book in the Monfredo's Cain trilogy, which is an interesting Civil War spy series with women in the lead roles. However, I didn't find the Cain series as compelling as her Seneca Falls series, and it did wrap up a loose end or two from the Seneca Fall series. But due to my life-long interest in the Civil War, I can be very critical about novels based on that period.

If you want excellent historical accuracy in your mysteries, as well as strong lead women, then I really recommend Monfredo's Seneca Fall series.
