Summary:
Honestly, the summary is more of a few stories mixed together. An overall story is Cecily, Jeremy, their mother, and a young refugee named May running off to the country to be away from the war in London. Their uncle is taking them in to Heron Hall. While there, May finds some ruins and some young boy ghosts that happen to be there. This leads to another story. The final storyline is uncle Peregrine's story. He tells stories to the children about his life. All together, it's a lot about each character's background and growth.
My thoughts:
This was an okay read. I wasn't really upset with it enough to put it down, but I never really wanted to pick it up to read either. The characters are not necessarily ones that I loved. May is the strongest character. I enjoyed getting to know her. Cecily is more difficult to enjoy. She is definitely spoiled and very naive. Jeremy wants to be fighting and proving that he's a man; however, he is also very spoiled and unsure of what actually constitutes a man. Finally, there mother is a stereotype not worth spending any time with. Another part that I didn't really enjoy was the tone of the story. There is no relief in the somber tone. It drags me down and never allows me to be picked back up.
