Who doesn't love David Sedaris? He picked these stories and wrote the introduction. There are the classics, such as Flannery O'Connor' REVELATION, along with more contemporary writers, such as Amy Hempel, Tobias Wolff, Lorrie Moore, Akhil Sharma, and Sarah Vowell

Collection of short stories edited by David Sedaris. Not as funny as most of David's work, but the stories are generally quite good.

A nice collection.

This is not a book that was authored by David Sedaris. He has a short story in this book of short stories, but that's all.

Made the mistake of not reading the small print "Edited and Introduced by" David Sedaris, and believed the pbs.com listing as "Author" David Sedaris. WARNING: David only wrote the intro, these are not his stories. While the short stories are very well written, and somewhat enjoyable, I was really looking forward to another hilarious Sedaris book. These classics are by Tobias Wolff, Lorrie Moore, Flannery O'Connor, Akhil Sharma, Dorothy Parker, Jincy Willett, Patricia Highsmith, Richard Yates, Charles Baxter, Katherine Mansfield, Alice Munro, Jean Thompson, Frank Gannon, Joyce Carol Oates, Tim Johnson, and Amy Hempel......
all terrific writers. Just set your Expectation Needle to 'Serious', not 'Humorous'.

i was so excited to read another amazing book by david sedaris..and then i realized that he didnt write this, he just wrote the introduction and put together the group of short stories. im not one who likes short stories because i feel like just as im finally getting to know the characters and enjoy the story- it ends.
this was a GREAT compilation! my favorite by far was Joyce Carol Oates story. after reading it i went out and ordered more of her books. id already ready Jhumpa Lahiri's story which was in the book by the same name, and i was only bored by one story.
the anthology also includes Katherine Mansfield's "The Garden Party," Flannery O'Connor's "Revelation," and stories by Alice Munro, Lorrie Moore, Tobias Wolff, Dorothy Parker and Patricia Highsmith.
an epilogue by Sarah Vowell explains that the proceeds from this collection will go to 826NYC, a nonprofit tutoring program designed to help students learn to write
