Very much ahead of her time, Emily Hahn, a young, single woman began traveling the world in the early thirties. 2 years were spent in Africa, but this is her memoir of many years in China as journalist and book writer. Her adventures were largely in Shanghai but then in Hong Kong as war loomed, and she became one of the many sufering through the occupation by the Japanese-along with her infant daughter.
