*LOVED* this book. Anne Perry took Superintendent Runcorn, a prominent character in the wonderful William Monk series, and gave him his own story in "A Christmas Beginning." A somewhat unlikable person in the Monk series, we now get to see Runcorn in a whole different light, and get to see him for the first time through *his* point of view. The Christmas series novella are all really good, and this one is by far my favorite.

Superintendent Runcorn of Scotland Yard is spending Christmas on the wild and beautiful island of Anglesey off the north coast of Wales. On one of his solitary strolls, the lonely bachelor stumbles across a lifeless body in the village churchyard. Everyone on Anglesey insists only a stranger could have murdered the local vicar's younger sister, but the evidence suggests otherwise!
