While I liked the male character being a little older I however did not like his speech. I felt for his character being someone of a powerful type man in society he talked like a crude young man.
I enjoyed this story very much for the most part. It's a nice change to read about an ambitious older hero who was previously married and had adult sons, and I liked how he didn't fight his attraction to Laena. Although Laena had her own bad experiences to deal with, she wasn't a doormat, and she also was mature enough to know her own mind. Jack and Laena's romance was 'normal'; no mystery, no great adventure, no huge secrets. Just two people who were at their own crossroads who unexpectedly fell in love. The sex was really good; not too vanilla, but not way out kinky either. My only real gripe about this story was the weak and unsatisfying epilogue, which wasn't about the main couple but rather the family members instead. 3.5 stars.
I love to read holiday books at the holidays and this book was good not great but the sex was hot.:-)
