This is probably the most bizzare book I've ever read. It has a very dream-like feel. Try not to over analyse and it can be a fun ride.

I loved this book! The author creates such a great atmosphere in every chapter. He takes you on a journey to discover the mystery behind a very different circus. The protagonist survives all kinds of perilous and adventurous situations in a quest to find his missing lover who dissapeared at a mystical circus. The book really drew me in and I never wanted to put it down. This author hasn't written many books and that is a shame because he is very talented. This particular book of his is a gem!

From the back cover:
A woman steps into a circus magician's box, and the box is set on fire. When the woman fails to reappear and the circus itself vanishes overnight, Alex Barton sets out to find his missing wife. Bizarre clues lead him to a mysterious island, where he encounters a faceless private army, a theater where performanc and the stage have become objects of veneration, and a Felliniesque circus consealed within a hollowed out mountain. Tortured, tempted, analyzed, Alex sheds his identity and assumes a new one, as a tightrope walker whose strength is his vulnerability. As the lines between the real and th surreal blur, Alex must discover what may - or may not - be the truth about his wife and himself....

They say never judge a book by the cover. With this book I did, the cover art pulled me in. I started to read, and the beginning was good and it sat the plot up well. It went down hill from there. It was to spacey. I felt that it left holes in the story, and I wanted more.

I pulled this book from a box of book donations my uncle and I were sorting when the cover caught my eye. I took it home because I'm a bit enamored of the circus. I'm sorry to say that Circus of Earth and Air was something of a disappointment though. The story was very origial, and held a lot of promise, but there were definite holes in the plot and I found the ending very unsatisfactory.
