Vintage Heinlein. Young Thorby is brought to Sargon as a slave, and is rescued by a beggar... but both may be more than they appear to be.

A great tale about a slave boy who doesn't realize that he has the power to change, for the better, the fate of countless people, but he has to do it by giving up what he wants most.

One of my most favorite sci-fi novels from Heinlein.

I read this book back in 1983 and again in 1985; then I stupidly sold it to a used book store. When I found it here, I just had to have it again.

"Citizen of the Galaxy" is a prime example of the Dean's transition from YA Sci-Fi novels such as "Starman Jones" and "Space Cadet" into his more cerebral stuff ("Starship Troopers", "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" et al) All the typical Heinlein elements are there, just not quite as polished as his Hugo-winning stuff yet.

I'll not bother you with a plot synopsis, since that's available elsewhere. I would suggest this could've been one of his masterpieces had he written it after he had fully developed his style. As it is, it's highly entertaining! This book keeps moving, and I managed to finish it in less than 24 hours. Definitely recommended for all fans of Sci-Fi!

Anyone that thinks they would like to start reading science fiction...this is the writer to read...I have everyone of Robert Heinlein's books, including the one that his wife put together for him after he died (nonfiction)...Citizen of the Galaxy is one of his early books...it is good, but then I have never read a bad book by Heinlein....I will not trade my Heinlein books...his books I have collected for over 30 years...I Will Fear No Evil is one of his best....
