A wonderfully scary Amazon adventure! Allende is a great writer, painting pictures, finding new ways to tell us things we feel we have always known. I was so glad to find she had written a children's book!

A different kind of book for Isabel Allende, but very enjoyable. I think it would be an excellent read for a young teen. A good connection was made between the grandmother and grandson during their adventure. As usual, the writing style was excellent; it was a smooth, easy read.

This is a YA novel but it is still a fascinating read. If you are interested in lost cultures, adventures, shamanism, spirit animals (among other things) this book is for you.

So far, not one of my favorite Allende books. I guess this was written more for teens, and it was a bit plodding to me. I liked it, but didn't love it. The premise, to me, was a little unbelievable. What parent in their right mind would let their teenage son go traipsing around the Amazon with this so-called grandmother? Quite fantastical reading, though not very believable, and definitely unlike other books I've read of hers. Very Cohello-esque, if you like his writing you might like this.
As the title of this review suggests, it is a fun teen read. I think that I would have loved it if I were in sixth grade. Still a good, fast paced story and a quick read (took a few days of bedtime reading to finish). The main child character is a little annoying at first but becomes less so as he 'matures' through the story - which is not an exactly a truly imaginative fantasy story line. Great eco/conservation adventure story for adolescents. Am I going to read the next book in line (Kingdom of the Golden Dragon)? Of course... Afterall, I read all of the Twilight books despite the horrible writing.
I really enjoyed this book! It is written for a younger audience (highschool, maybe), but it still kept my interest and I continued to think about the story long after I'd finished.
