Fairly good story of what if the Native Americans had done things differently. Reasonably good, somewhat possible but not a great work. Worth the read but not one I'll go back to.

I have to agree with the previous reviewer - this is a good alternate history book, but not great. Certainly well researched and an intriguing "what if?" tale. A weak spot is that some of the action and character development is depicted after the fact and described by minor characters. With a sweeping epic this is probably to be expected, but I still found it irksome. More annoying is that the author often draws attention to the fact that this is alternate history. I didn't need to be told that from the characters' point of view, it was distracting.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! As much alternate histroy as there is these days (some great and some garbage), it is nice to find someone who isn't doing the same old "what if the South won the Civil War" or "What if the Nazis won the Second World War" stuff that we see too much of these days.

Ms. Sargent did a fine job of developing characters and making the story seem real. Kind of makes you stop and think about what "might have been", like good alternate-history is supposed to.

I recommend it to everyone.

I'm a sap I know but I like books that have at least a positive outlook in the end, this book did not.
