With previous Cobra books, Zahn made a clean break for each book with each Moreau generation. Here, he doesn't. Making liberal use of Jin/Jasmine, he ties her, her children, the Qasaman's and some new Troft Demesne together.
I don't like the Qasaman's. Keep it to Cobra's kicking Troft butt and I'm happy. More time was given to the Qasaman "super soldiers" than to the Cobras and overall it felt like it was a book more about the Qasaman's than the Cobra's.
Now, given this is a start of a series [probably a trilogy given Zahn's history with series], slowness is expected. However, the non-coolness of the Cobra's really got in the way. They are no longer Super Soldiers Taking Names and Kicking Butt, but little spine leopard hunters who are in touch with themselves and feel bad about killing things.
Geez. This is a severe step down from the Cobra's I grew up with. I certainly hoped the next book[s] deals with this and turns them back to real soldiers.
