This is another in the series about Alan Banks, a senior detective in Yorkshire. Alan is a pleasant fellow who grew up in the 60s and when not detecting has all the problems of marriage and children that the rest of us have--of course, he has the typical problems of Yorkshire, which appear to be a little different than those in Utah, where I live. (That's part of what makes his daily life interesting....)

Banks works through the crime, slowly discovering threads and pieces of information which eventually disclose the crime and criminal. It's thoughtful reading, not thriller stuff. Part of it involves decades-old misdeeds of his superior officer.

Robinson is a master writer. If you like British police procedurals (I do!), you'll enjoy this one.

The story kept me interested from the beginning to the end. Annie Cabbot from the last novel re-enters Inspector Banks life which makes for some interesting situations. A must read for any fan of Inspector Banks. Or for that matter anyone who enjoys a good and solid English police investigation. Looking forward to the next installment in the series.

The nude photo of a teenage runaway shows up on a pornographic website, and the girl's father turns to Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks for help. But these are not typical circumstances, for the runaway is the daughter of a man who's determined to destroy the dedicated Yorkshire policeman's career and good name. Still it is a case that strikes painfully home, one that Banks, a father himself, dares not ignore, as he follows it's squalid trail into teeming London and into a world of drugs, sex, and crime.

Inspector Alan Banks Series Book #11

Chief Constable Riddle, a man who has been actively working to destroy the career of Inspector Alan Banks, now needs Bank's help. Pictures of Riddle's missing daughter have turned up on a pornographic website. And though the Chief Constable abhors his methods, Banks is the one policeman who can best handle the investigation.
But the search for a missing and debased young woman is drawing Banks deep into London's sordid underbelly of drugs, crime, and sex. And the truth he finds down there in the muck could destroy him and his senior officer too.

This book was given to me and I didn't get a chance to read it. Looks like a good thriller.
