This book in the series started out slow for me. It has been a while since I read the last one in the series and I just couldn't get into it quickly. The last half of the book is a full on thrill ride. I could not read fast enough and remembered quickly why I love Brian Freeman's writing and this series!

What a disappointment! I usually like Brian Freeman books but this one just didn't do it for me.

It is very slow moving with lots and lots of repeat in it, I got very tired of the repeat of Cat and her mother, very tired of the affair between Stride and Maggie, okay to mention both to remind of past books but then MOVE ON!

The storyline is not a new one, it's one that has been told over and over and I didn't find this one added anything different or better. It doesn't have a lot of suspense and not a lot of thriller to it, maybe just the mystery of who done it but other than that I found it to be very slow and boring.

Stride has a blast from the past when a 16 year old appears at his house needing his help. Cat is he daughter of a friend who was murdered 10 years ago, Cat is traumatized and may or may not have murdered someone and now someone may be after her. As Stride gets involved with the case he starts uncovering a prostitution ring involving some of the cities politicos and not all is what is seems. Meanwhile, Maggie is having a fling with a fellow officer in another town to offset her feelings for the mistakes she & Stride made in their relationship and Serena is still gone from Stride's life. Another seemingly straight forward case from the past rears it's ugly head combining with the current case and it's all hands on deck. Stride has to get to the bottom of Cat's trauma from her parent's suicide/murder to tie in with what is currently happening all while trying to reconcile with Serena. Will Maggie & Serena get over past hurts and will Stride be with his love and solve the cases?
