A family is murdered in a remote village farmhouse-but one of the children is missing. Kidnapped? Running away with a killer stalking him? Was he the murderer of his own parents and siblings?
Another in the superb Ian Rutledge series

Inspector Ian Rutledge has been summoned to a remote village in the north of England to help find the murderer of a family. The murders were committed during a blizzard in December, 1919. A good mystery and interesting to the last page.

Another (long) interesting mystery as Rutledge travels to an isolated valley in the North of England. (The map of the area helped keep track of, well, the tracks.) I still have the same gripe about the series: the overuse of Hamish -- and the need to explain what he's doing inside Rutledge's brain for readers who are new to the series. But you come to care about some of the characters (and despise others) and root for Rutledge to triumph in the end. I found the killer's motive unpersuasive, but it's the writing I read these books for, not the plotting.

This is a very interesting series. Hero is a shell-shocked WWI vet who has gone back to his old job as a policeman.

Just discovered Charles Todd. Wanted to space out the books, but so far have read 8 in 3 months, so much for will power. His books get better with each volume.
