Dana Stabenow has a couple of series, but the Kate Shugak stories have the most in the series. They are all set in the outback of Alaska. I really enjoy them, but Alaska has always entrigged me and a place I have always wanted to visit. They are about difficulty living in the outback and simple living of life.

Excellent story, does for me about Alaska what Tony Hillerman does for the southwest. Kept me on edge the whole time, stories within stories.

Deft descriptions of weather, geography, and habitation set this mystery in a world of its own.

One of my favorite authors.
This book features detective Kate, but also the pipeline business and Alaska itself as characters. Again, she is an Amazon of many talents, clever and resourceful, packed into a 5 foot package of guts and determination to bring the bad guys in.
Thoroughly enjoyed it, and an early winner in the series can't wait to find and read the others in the Kate series.
