Note: These novellas should be read in order because the stories build on each other. This is a set of four novellas by Catriona King, a medical doctor and a police Forensic Medical Examiner in London. She worked there for years and then returned to Belfast in 2006. These stories are engaging and lead the reader to find more.
A LIMITED JUSTICE -- 4.5 Stars
This is a great way to meet the series' main characters (the author also includes thumbnail sketches at the back of the book). This is a fascinating story about justice that isn't and people who seek justice to correct wrongs. My only quibble with this story is that Marc Craig goes out with a new interest and sits in the car talking about his past love life (Camille Kennedy) until dawn. That seemed so strange for a first date.
THE GLASS TATTOO -- E
This is a tightly drawn novella about the contract killing of an MP's innocent wife to remind the MP that he owes ten million pounds for not delivering a contract as he promised. This is a complex web of lust, money, and stealing public funds. Great story.
THE VISITOR -- E
This novella is particularly gruesome. Someone angry that the hospital and police have not picked up on the murderous ways of some hospital employees kills the only daughter of a criminal kingpin (while she is in the hospital, having a baby). When the dangerous kingpin does not start taking retribution for her death, the Visitor starts.
THE WAITING ROOM -- E
This story is quite different; vulnerable girls are solicited for sex. They are offered 10,000 pounds for a night of sex if they are virgins. Unfortunately, that is not the end of their connection. This story is chilling.
