Ashton Wingate, handsome plantation owner and grieving widower, is still haunted by the death of his beloved wife some three years ago. Imagine his shock, when a woman strikingly like his wife is hit by Ashton's carriage on his way home! Only one thing lies in the way of Ashton proving to everyone that this is actually his dear wife Lierin-she's lost her memory. But who is she? Is she Ashton's wife, or the wife of someone entirely different? This book is a definite must-read with finely drawn characters on many complex levels.

This book is one of my favorites by Kathleen Woodwiss. I've read it several times.
As good as Woodiwiss always is....
A riveting story of betrayal, intrigue and undying love.
She awoke from a nightmare of violence and madness with no name, no memory...and two men who claimed her heart. His vanished, adored bride had mysteriously reentered his life-resurrecting lost joys.. and the dark shadows of a dangerous past.Trapped in a sinister web of lies and deceit, Lierin would fight to regain her true identity and to belong to Ashton, the stranger who made her remember what her love could not forget. (Back cover) They don't write them like this anymore.
This was a very good romance with an excellent mystery thrown in!!! The characters were very real and the story keeps you reading to find out what happens.
I believe that Woodiwiss is an exceptional romance writer and I have enjoyed her books but I no longer read romance novels.
A book with a lot of suspense.
Very nice story
Very nice story
Woodiwiss is always a great read.
Confused and afraid with no memory of her past - not the tragedy she had suffered or the two men who fought to claim her - but her heart remembered. Lierin/Lenore knew she belonged to the stranger who adored her and made her remember love.
Excellent. Too a rare Bookclub edition book in Hardcover
