I was not expecting poetry. I expected more of the what's and why's of her writing dry spell (and why she dropped a highly anticipated novel). Her illness, a divorce, depression; the back blurb misleads in that respect, as her trials are only hinted at in the poems. Everyone grieves their loses and copes in their own ways and it's obvious this volume means much to her. But they offer no insight into the problems she experienced, which is vital for non-religious readers, like this fan, to identify and connect with her. She wants other women to know they aren't alone and she leans heavily on her faith. However, that's not enough for me. 2 stars.
