An autobiographical tale of Reichl's early days in food writing. Her melodic descriptions of food make for fabulous reading. Her life is a bit nontraditional (okay, a not nontraditional) but the food reading is simply amazing, focusing primarily on California and Paris. Recipes too. Recommended for food lovers.

I just finished Tender to the Bone and Comfort me with Apples in a marathon one sitting of 16 hours with NO sleep. I LOVED these books. i LOVE the way she can describe what she is eating so that you almost feel like you have tasted it. I LOVE how honest she is about the painful and embarrasing moments in her life. I would like to know her. I LIKE her. I hope you do too. Read Tender to the Bone first.

I never heard of Ruth Reichl when I picked up this book. The title drew me in. The writing held me captive. Reichl tells the story of cooking for her friends, cooking for a Berkley restaurant, and breaking into the food critic business. Recipes are sprinkled around the prose.

I love, love, love this book and the other books Ruth Reichl have written. I love how she describes the first bite of something yummy in her mouth, I love the characters and I love the recipes.

I enjoyed this book very much. Though the book Ruth Reichl wrote before this, Tender At The Bone, was definitely better. I would still highly recommend both, especially if you are a foodie like myself.

Second memoir from Ruth Reichl. While I preferred "Tender at the Bone", this second installment is intriguing if you are at all interested in food and the food service industry.

I read this book, fittingly, on my first trip to LA. That's where Reichl became a critic when the city was just becoming known as a restaurant town. When she showed up at fancy restaurants in thrift-store clothing and a Volvo that started with a screwdriver instead of a key, I felt reassured that great things can come from humble beginnings.

This is a great book for any foodie fans out there. I really enjoy Ruth Reichl's writing style. Even the complicated gourmet dishes are brought down to simple flavors. It's a delicious read that made me very hungry.

This was a very enjoyable quick read. Recipes are a bit too gourmet for me mostly, but the story was fun.

A great sequel to an interesting memoir, especially if you love food. A little overly self-conscious at times, but hey, it's a memoir.

I really enjoyed reading this book and finished it in one sitting. Another funny and poignant book by NY Times Food Critic Ruth Reichl. Although all Ruth's books always include food, restaurants and recipes, this one shows a more personal side of Ruth's life. As always, Ruth writes with a great sense of humor and a down to earth style, no pretentiousness here. This book is a sequel of sorts to her first book Tender at the Bone and a prequel to her book Garlic and Sapphires (also two great reads). This book focuses more on Ruth's life towards the end of her first marriage and the beginning of her second, however, the book is much more then just about Ruth's marriages. This book is about life, love and of course food. She also shows us a brief look at her relationships with such celebrities as Wolfgang Puck and his wife Barbara and the actor and wonderful cook Danny Kaye. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was sorry it had to end. I definitely recommend this one.

Ruth's sequel to "Tender at the Bone" contains more recipes and humor. This book begins when Ruth becomes a restaurant critic in 1978. I laughed a lot and learned a lot.

The story of Ruth's beginnings as a critic and her love life along the way. More of a story of her struggle to find herself. She fell in love with being a food critic but finding herself in her love life is another matter. Maybe it was a sign of the times and living too long in Berkeley -- oops, did I say that. Anyway, if you have read her other books, they get better.

Not quite as good as "Tender at the Bone", but still a great read for those interested in food and the food industry.

I love this writer! I started with her book "Tender at the Bone" and love it. I just finished reading "Comfort Me with Apples" and found that it too, is wonderful. Looking now for my next book by Ruth Reichl.
