While not as humorous as the #1 Detective Agency Series, Alexander Mccall Smith has a winner in Isabel Dalhousie as she edits her philosophy magazine and tries to redeem a doctor's reputation! Isabel cannot help getting involved in others' problems, and while this character is more complex than the manager of the detective agency, she displays more of the author's talent for developing characters and his knowledge of literature of the English-speaking world. As someone once said, "All's well that ends well!"

I have ready many books by Alexander McCall Smith and this one certainly did not disappoint. I love the way Isabel's mind works and the life she leads in the historic city of Edinburgh.
