Sabrina Stone looks like a society wife ~~ all glitter and glam only to show Derek McGill that she is a woman made of substance. And their love story takes you from the top of a Manhattan rooftop to the farmland in Vermont. There are murder, intrigue and steamy sex scenes written in this little book.

She speaks with investigative reporter Derek McGill for only a few minutes, it is long enough to tell her all she needs to know about this caring man. Sabrina next meets Derek in a maximum security prison, after he is convicted of murder. She comes to tell him she believes in his innocence and finds him a man hardened by experience yet one who still loves her and her son. But to commit herself Sabrina must finally end her marriage, and begin a fight for the man's freedom that holds no guarantees, only the promise of fulfilling all of their dreams.

Barbara Delinsky is one of my favorite authors and this book, written in 1987 is an example of one of her best stories. It's about a woman, Sabrina Stone, who struggles to care for her brain-damaged child and threat it has to her marriage. Her life changes when she meet Derek McGill who has been convicted of murder and is in prison. It's all about how love conquers all. A great read!

COMMITMENTS

In more than sixty books, Barbara Delinsky has made an indelible mark on American readers with her unforgettable novels. Here the New York Times bestselling author of The Vineyard, Lake News, and Three Wishes tells a deeply emotional and suspenseful tale of a woman torn between the hopes she has for herself and her family and the needs of the man she loves...

Writer Sabrina Stone had married wealthily and unwisely. Her husband's refusal to love their handicapped son added more strrain to an already failing relationship. Yet Sabrina feels a commitment to her marriage--one that she has vowed to honor.

Then one day, she encounters an investigative reporter named Derek McGill who is writing a story on parents of special children. They speak for only a few minutes, but it is long enough for the two of them to feel a desire that stuns them...a desire they both assume must remain unfulfilled.

Eighteen months later Sabrina's husband is divorcing her and Derek McGill is in prison for murder. Following an impulse, Sabrina travels to Derek's prison to tell him that she believes in his innocence. What started as an act of compassion will turn into a ddangerous and passionate test of her courage as she tries to uncover who engineered Derek's conviction. And she will discover the meaning of one of the most important commitments of all--the one a woman makes to herself. The one that will determine the course of her life...and the fate of the dreams she has for her child.

I wasn't so thrilled with the ending of this book. I felt that the beginning was great, but towards the end the author hurried up to tie up the story neatly.

I just recently finished reading this book. Once again, Barbara Delinsky does not disappoint. The contents/subject matters in all of her books are thought provoking. Her characters are realistic and her style of writing compels you to want to keep reading more. This was a fantastic book - I have yet to read anything she has published that I haven't enjoyed. I highly recommend this to anyone who may be a fan of her writing.

I love this book. Maybe it's the rich girl findng love in with the poor guy. Maybe it's seeing right win in the end. Maybe it's the home Sabrina made in the country with Derek. Could be the working out of major family problems. Whatever, it is a great read and I've reread it many, many times.
