Perhaps a bit darker but not so much. Still Father Tim, being himself. I found the old journal fascinating & was sorry to see it, and the book, end. We should be happy to get a few more glimpses of Mitford folks, after all...

This is a beautifully written book, perhaps the best of both the Father Tim and Mitford series, and that's saying something.

Having read, and re-read, all of those books, I feel that one shouldn't read the latest without having read the previous - but doing so would certainly make the reader want to go back and seek out each series.

Characters are fully developed, and attention paid to the beautiful setting in Ireland. Cultural differences are noted and observed, but all is done in a natural, easy-to-read style.

Go forth, and enjoy this book without any reservation!

Another warm and fuzzy book about Father Tim & Cynthia...this time the entire book takes place in Ireland and involves quite a few interesting characters at the inn where they are staying. It's a little different, and I kind of missed the North Carolina characters and flavor, but all in all, a good read.

I have read the whole Mitford series as well as the first Father Tim book; loved them all. However, I could not get throught this one. The story didn't seem to go anywhere ( I read half of the book) and the pages of the diary were very boring to me. Maybe the story comes together in the end, but I was just forcing myself to contine reading it. Sorry, Jan Karon.

This book like all of her others was hard to put down once I started reading it. I love all of her characters and love the way she brings them back into other books. This is one of my favorites!

I missed the joy that the other books had. This one was dark and very sad. Did not enjoy it as I did the other books by this author.

I loved this book! It was like taking a summer vacation without leaving home. I felt like I was living the experience, the characters were so real. I was sorry for it to end. I have already loaned it to someone else to read! I think Jan Karon's writing gets better and better. This book is my favorite of hers so far.

Love Jan Karon's books. Missed the old crowd at Mitford though. Recommend.

this one was a hard read for me. It did not keep my attention as well as the others in the series. The brogue and many new characters were hard getting used to. Father Tim was his usual kind, caring and loving person. If that is what a vacation is I'm glad I don't take any. The ending does bring it altogether though.

Excellent book, however, I prefer the books placed in Mitford. I will say that this one I've been looking for for some time. I'm glad to have it in my collection.

Father Tim is again pursuing his history and trying to come to terms with it. As usual, he manages, with a lot of prayer and faith in a VERY big and loving God.

Though Jan Karon said this is her favorite, I said before I was half finished that it is her BEST. She is such a good writer, and her characters are so well developed. I have been enjoying her books for years ~ plus I enjoy books about Ireland. This is very enjoyable.

Always a good read! I have followed Father Tim ever since I started reading the Mitford series a couple of years ago. I am pleased that she decided to continue on with his story. Now that he is retired he can travel and that is what this book is all about. It opens up with Fr. Tim and his wife Cynthia travel to the land of his ancestors. Right away things get interesting for the two of them.

Oh, how a I hated this book - soooooo dissapointing. I want Mitford, I want the residents of that lovely town. Not this drivel. Where is Gladys? Where are Dooley and Puny and please, please, give me Barnabas (not Pud). Hate, hate, hated it.
