Last year I became a new Beekeeper with 2 top bar beehives, a Kenyan and a Warre.
I was given 8 books about Honeybees for Christmas, and one battery operated smoker.
I have yet to light up that smoker but this book, the Complete Idiot's Guide to Beekeeping is the only one I recommend, although I did read them all to find the differences.
This one is very well organized and the details were explained in a manner I could understand.
The best part is they do not tell me I must poison my honeybees to treat their various problems.
Here in the South (Mississippi) we suffer from Hive Beetles that came here from Africa. I am using chickens (to eat hive beetle grubs) and open windows so the light in the hive makes it unattractive.
Smaller Bees so far are working to keep the Veroa mite away.
Great Book!
