"RegencyLand" is my term for a setting which is like the English Regency period, but not really the same thing -- as FrontierLand in Disneyland is like the American west but not really.
Compromised is pure RegencyLand. Kate Noble's book is entertaining enough for a light read on a romantic comedy level, but there are many mistakes in it, and I don't think she captures much of the flavor of the period. Her language is quite modern; for me that's a minus, but I understand that for others that would be a plus. Some of her humorous sections would probably sound better if they were read aloud; the anachronistic tone wouldn't be such an issue and they are quite funny sometimes.
I do think she can draw vivid characters -- particularly the stepmother Romilla and the two sisters Evangeline and (Abi)Gail. There's nothing melodramatic about the book; it's basically a tale of two couples sorting themselves out and on that level it's a nice read. I just wish the author had had a good editor who knew something about titles, customs, etc., because too much got by her.

Author's debut novel, written with humor and wit, is about two sisters and mismatched lovers. The characters are delightful, and the plot never lags.
