Speaking as a lesbian in a military family, I found this book riveting. It's amazing how many reasons there have been to discriminate against gays in the military, possibly the least of which have anything to do with gays in the military. Like so many Pentagon decisions, this one is rooted in politics, and innocent servicemembers and taxpayers pay the price. Fascinating. I HIGHLY recommend it.
A lengthy book with lots of historical data. Enjoyable reaading material for the interested in this ntopic.

I will not put this book back into the system, first its as big as a car, and weighs as much, but because of its content. It proves why our men where asleep at the switch on Sept. 11 and this book implies what they were probably doing instead of protecting America, instead of doing their jobs, they were doing jobs. To put it mildly and discretly.Live whatever life you want just dont push it, talk about it, act it out, or brag about it while working for this country, is my marine mother voice. You might not agree and thats ok. I recommend reading this article if you disagree:http://www.narth.com/docs/satinover09.html
While right off the bat it tells you that the thread binding all military mottos is that they take a boy and make him into a man and after reading this book it will dispell that notion and replace it with the motto if you give us your boys we will give you back toys.
I am not going to finish the book. I hope the writer who lives in San. Francisco doesnt have aids by now and if hes still alive I would tell him if he was my son Id buy a box of tissues and cry my heart out for what he has done with his life. For the title, excellent, I give this book a minus 4, it would have been a -5 but I liked the title. From a mother of a marine...booyahhh
I just found a good use for this book;a footstool.
