Another satisfying Insp. Rutledge tale, set mostly in a fictional village on a fictional river east of London where the townsfolk don't appreciate a stranger poking into their business, even though it's to look into the deaths of people who once lived there. The killer's motive is a bit of a stretch unless you consider his an unbalanced mind.
